A group of Ateneo de Davao University personnel and some students, primarily student volunteers and office staff of the Arrupe Office of Social Formation (formerly SICO), departed for Nabunturan of the province of Compostela Valley this morning, 5th December, to deliver some relief goods to survivors of superstorm Pablo which came battering down on areas in Davao Oriental, Davao del Sur, Davao del Norte, Surigao de Sur, Bukidnon and Northern Mindanao yesterday. The Ateneo contingent left in a convoy of two and carried with them relief goods in the form of two hundred and fifteen (215) packs of food stuffs, two (2) boxes of medicines, one (1) box of hygiene items and seventy-three (73) sacks of clothing.
While classes were suspended 4th December, in the wake of Pablo’s calamitous landing in the eastern part of Mindanao, a group of student volunteers and university personnel numbering close to a hundred packed and repacked reliefs good at Ebro compound, adjacent to the university construction site. Yesterday’s relief operation, which was primarily relying on the initiative and generosity of student volunteers, was spearheaded by the University Community Engagement and Advocacy Council (UCEAC), in partnership with the SAMAHAN Central Board, and overseen by some university administrators.
