A Basic Orientation Seminar (BOS) was conducted by the Arrupe Office of Social Formation on 9th November 2014 for its newly recruited corps of student volunteers. The whole-day seminar, held at J-301, introduced the new recruits to the thrusts of the office in view of its mandate on social formation in the Ateneo de Davao University, in the collegiate level. It also featured an orientation on the framework as well as the guidelines for student volunteerism, which is pertinent to Arrupe’s Student Servant Leadership Program (SSLP), a program that directly supervises the student volunteers. The SSLP is currently headed by Mr. Noriel R. Rogon and Ms. Janice Camañan, program coordinator and program officer, respectively.
And so for this school year, the Arrupe Office (formerly the Social Involvement Coordinating Office [SIC0]) announced the new batch of Arrupe Volunteers, Batch 44, who now join the current roster of student volunteers. Known as the Arrupe Vols, these new batch of students who made the cut after a thorough screening, can now legitimately assist the office in the delivery of its social formations programs in the tertiary level.

All in all, including the existing volunteers from the different batches, there are now 107 Arrupe Vols this school year.
Recruitment for the new batch of Arrupe Vols (known before as SICO Vols) started as early as July in the first semester. Those who applied went through a series of screenings conducted by the office. The applicants were interviewed by Arrupe’s program coordinators, and those who passed were asked to participate during the Assessment Day wherein they underwent preliminary introduction on the nature of the work performed by the office. After another round of deliberations, thirty-five (35) applicants made it to the final list constituting the new corps of student volunteers. They are the 44th batch of volunteers since the office established a program that trains a pool of students who will act as the office’s co-formators especially in the deployment of its various programs.
Some parents of the students came inorder to lend their support to their sons and daughters, as well as to the program itself. They then witnessed the Commissioning Rites which formed part of the BOS, and inserted during the Eucharistic Celebration presided by Fr. Daniel J. McNamara, SJ.
The director of the Arrupe Office, Ms. Lilibeth L. Arcena, was on hand to give a talk on the Social Apostolate of the Society of Jesus (SJSA) in the afternoon. M. Isabel S. Actub, Communications and Advocacy Program (CAP) coordinator, also gave an input on the framework of Authentic Christian Humanism (ACH) in the morning session.
