The National Service Training Program / Civic Welfare Training Service (NSTP/CWTS), under the Arrupe Office of Social Formation (formerly the Social Involvement Coordinating Office [SICO]), concluded its first semester of fieldwork on the first Saturday of September of 2012. The three-Saturday fieldwork activities were held on the following dates: 18 th August, 25th August and 1st September. Fieldwork forms part of the curriculum of NSTP/CWTS wherein students are deployed in several communities in Davao City to do community profiling as a preparation for project implementation in the second semester.
A total of 1,689 second year students enrolled in NSTP/CWTS 1, together with 46 faculty members, with the assistance of 52 student volunteers, conducted community profiling activities in 46 designated areas which included, among others, several puroks in the barangay level, Gagmayng Kristohanong Katilingban (GKKs) and parishes in the archdiocesan level, and other identified communities and institutions. The administration of SICO-NSTP signed a total of 35 Memoranda of Agreements (MOAs) covering 206 communities, most of which are SICO’s regular external links through the years and with some new ones.
The three-Saturday fieldwork in the first semester of this school year provided the spadework for NSTP-CWTS 2 in the second semester. In the second phase of this year-long course, students are expected to propose and implement projects in the same areas of exposure for the duration of six Saturdays commencing December of 2012.
